WVS

Wind Vane Sampling System


 

WVS systems are used to establish the constituent concentrations of downwind plumes from point, line, and area sources. A wireless telemetry system allows for direct communications between the ground station and one or more WVS units to allow for remote operations (on/off, flow rate verification, etc.), and contined data feedback and storage. WVS units have the capability to utilize various sampling media including filter cassettes, sample tubes, and impingers. An added GPS located on each WVS can be downloaded separatey to determine the exact location of each unit during sampling operations. WVS systems can be utilized on tethered balloon aerostats and UAS units (as shown below), fixed towers, and other mobile and fixed sampling platforms.

Capabilities:


WVS systems can characterize plumes with respect to x, y, z and time at prescribed elevaions and downwind distances fro sources of interest. With the flexibility of accepting multiple sample media types and the ability of being placed on mobile and fixed platforms, applications for this technology are practically limitless. Under Government support, Apogee has utilized WVS units on aerostats in the sampling of lofted aire masses for plume concentrations. Other applications include sampling urban/remote ambient air sheds, pollution characterization studies, and release studies using tracers.
