QSISTM
Quick Silver Inertial Separation System
Apogee Scientific has the solution to vapor-phase mercury sampling concerns. We have performed over 30,000 hours of real-time mercury measurements utilizing the QSISTM filter. We developed the QSISTM as there was no other reliable extraction systems available.

Apogee Scientific’s Quick Silver Inertial Separation (QSISTM) Probe pioneered the solution to one of the most difficult problems of measuring vapor-phase mercury (Hg) in harsh flue gas conditions. The QSIS™ probe is designed to provide a particulate-free sample stream without affecting the mercury speciation properties of the original flue gas stream or allow for any particulate matter within the flue gas stream to attenuate the mercury. The probe is a closed system and excess gas is returned to the host duct without additional modifications. It has also been utilized for SO3 measurements in harsh flue gas conditions. |

Patent No.: US 6,736,883 B2 |
Principle of Operation
The QSIS™ probe incorporates Apogee’s patented QSIS™ filter (US 6,736,883 B2), which is an inertial filter independently temperature controlled to avoid any attenuation of Hg due to particulates in the flue gas stream. An air eductor (or regenerative blower) accelerates flue gas through the QSIS™ probe at a high rate (100-400 slpm) in a vector direction with sufficient velocity to prevent any particles from depositing on or penetrating the porous filter wall by the ballistic effect of particle inertia.
QSISTM Filter (can be purchased separately)
The integral inertial filter removes particles as small as 0.5 μm and each QSIS™ filter is coated with (Silicosteel®-CR) to further provide confidence in your measurements. The QSISTM Filter has the ability to provide up to 4 liters of sampled gas to any CMM or other sampling system and is compatible with any dry- or wet-based Hg conditioning system. |

QSISTM Probe
The QSISTM Probe is a light weight and extremely portable front-end system that couples with any sample conditioning system followed by a commercially available CMM. QSISTM Probes have been successfully installed upstream and downstream of all known air pollution control devices utilized at coal-fired utilities to accurately measure vapor-phase Hg and SO3 concentrations.
